2013 Tour report & photos now available!
A comprehensive report and hundreds of photos from this year’s Easter Tour to Sofia, Bulgaria are now available in the Tour section.
Sofia proved to be a happy stomping ground for the 14-strong touring party, both on and off the field, as they collected two wins from two on the pitch and had the better of a tricky final evening fixture with the Women’s Rugby Team from Lancaster University – an unscheduled game kindly arranged at late notice by Harry Woolley and the opposition skipper (and prop forward) ‘Bonnet’.
With accommodation and football all housed at the training centre used by the Bulgarian national team at Tsarko Selo, the team could literally roll out of bed and onto the pitch if they so desired. Most chose to travel on foot however, saving valuable time and stone-related injuries.
The tour was superbly marshalled by Jack Or-Ewing and his Bulgarian counterpart Rado, two kindred spirits who shared a love of football, beer and mystery Bulgarian meats – the party’s staple diet for the three days and nights. On safely returning to London on Monday, the group were in full agreement that:
1/ It had been an excellent way to spend the Easter weekend
2/ OH footballers, alcohol and women’s rugby teams surprisingly do mix
3/ Fred Coleridge-Cole is very strange indeed
Talk has already started on a venue for next Easter, with some belief that as the 50th Anniversary of OHAFC Tours, 2014 could prove the ideal year for the next 'big' tour - the club's last one being the hugely successful two-week trip to Brazil and Argentina organised by Andrew Butler.
