1st XI suffer 3-2 loss to KCS in second friendly

10 Sep 2012

The 1st XI suffered a disappointing 3-2 defeat to KCS Wimbledon Old Boys on Monday night, although the sparse squad and poor preparation more than played their part in the outcome.

Availability for the fixture was even less than expected with Sam Pepys ill and Nick Warner, who had been a possible, ultmately unable to make it. With the likes of Baker, Martin, Brunt, Harry Hoffen, Hadden-Paton, Raffety, and Harder already either injured or away, the squad was down to the bare bones.

Fred Milln kindly agreed to play in goal despite not having fully recovered from his bone spur operation in August and Alex Molloy, brother of Paul, a late call-up to help ensure a side could actually be raised.

Harrow started the game well, despite half the side arriving shortly before kick-off. But as the game wore on, the superior fitness and sharpness of Wimbledon began to take it's toll and Harrow were soon on the back foot. Two goals were conceded due to cheap loss of possession, a recurring theme throughout the game, although Harrow did have chances of their own to get on the scoresheet - Bourke and Hoffen were both freed over the top but neither could take advantage.

With Paul Molloy having to leave at half-time, his brother Alex switched to the right flank with Lederman moving inside. KCS remained in the ascendancy for the opening of the half and extended their lead after good work down their right-hand side.

But to Harrow's credit they kept plugging away and were rewarded with two goals in the last fifteen minutes: Alex Molloy finishing well and Luke de Rougemont tapping in after Hoffen's effort was initially saved.

Despite the defeat, it was another useful run-out for those present. With the fixture list handing the side a trip to Brentwood on the opening day, there is still much work for the side to do before they are ready for the start of the season.
