1st XI end season with thrashing at the Champions

9 May 2017

Champions and Double winners the Old Carthusians showed little mercy on the OHAFC's final day of the 2016/17 season, destroying the Harrow 1st XI 8-2 in sunny Godalming on Saturday.

Despite having already clinched the Arthurian League and Cup double, the Carthusians were in no mood to allow the visitors an easy ride and it quickly became a case of just how many they would win by. Hamish MacIntyre's excellent volley was the Blues' only cause for celebration in a one-sided opening forty-five minutes.

The second half was at least a more competitive affair, with Harrow briefly riling their opponents thanks to an excellent strike from Harry Hoffen, remarkably his first for the season, but the champions responded with two efforts of their own to snuff out any hopes of a tense finish.

Prior to the game, Ed Poulter was presented with a framed picture of himself in action in honour of his five years in charge of the 1st XI. Despite a valiant effort from the skipper this season, the 1s have again shown themselves unable to compete regularly in the Premier Division and they return to Division One next season having finished ninth with thirteen points.

A full review of the 1st XI season will appear on the site during the summer break.
