1s forced to settle for a point at Etonians
The OHAFC 1st XI were forced to settle for a point in a dramatic encounter away to the Old Etonians on the first weekend of the Arthurian League season.
The visitors fell behind courtesy of two rather controversial Eton efforts either side of the break, the first following a corner that appeared to have been safely collected by skipper Fraser McGuinness, the second via a cross from the left that elicited vociferous appeals for offside from the Blues.
The OHAFC then saw Doug Morrison sent to the sin bin for over-zealous complaints and the side had to dig deep to prevent Eton running away with the game – skipper McGuinness was called into action on numerous occasions and remained up to the task each time.
And his team rewarded him for his efforts with three goals inside a dominant twenty minute spell: Harry Bick raced through to deftly volley in, Chester Robinson’s weak effort somehow beat the sprawling Eton keeper and Bick then sent the visitors into raptures when his corner from the left sailed over everyone and into the far corner.
But the joy was short-lived as the hosts responded, levelling the scores just five minutes from time with a well-worked move down their left.
The OHAFC lineup featured two debutants: Peter Chadwick and Chris Abdo, both of whom performed creditably in a tough opening fixture.
