1s fight back to stay in thick of promotion race
The OHAFC 1st XI fought back valiantly to force a 2-2 draw at home to the Old Cholmeleians on Saturday afternoon, in the process ensuring that both sides remain firmly in the hunt for the final promotion spot from Division One of the Arthurian League.
Despite conceding twice in the first half in tricky conditions on the Ducker pitches, the Blues pulled a goal back just before the break courtesy of a freak own goal from nearly twenty yards by a Cholms defender.
The hosts had to withstand constant pressure in the second period but the defence held firm and their endeavours were rewarded just two minutes from time when James Breeden wriggled free down the right and cut the ball back for older brother Alex to tap in from five yards out.
The draw ensures the Blues will finish no lower than third if they avoid defeat away to Lancing this weekend. The only side who would then be able to deny them promotion would be Saturday's opponents the Old Cholmeleians - the two sides are due to meet in the OHAFC's final game of the season at the end of April.
