A second half collapse from the OHAFC 1st XI, not for the first time this season, cost the side three points in their vital relegation clash with fellow strugglers the Old Marlburians and, in the process, almost inevitably consigned the team to Division One football next season.

Both sides were fully aware of the ramifications of Saturday's result with visitors Marlborough knowing a draw would be more use to them than their opponents. For Harrow, only a win would do, with another relegation scrap against Brentwood to come, followed by the arduous trip to champions-elect Charterhouse.

Skipper Ed Poulter was able to name a strong squad with St Andrews University winger Ogyen Verhagen playing only his second game of the season and Harry Bick returning from a four-year hiatus to play his debut 1st XI game of the season.

As befitting two sides struggling at the foot of the table, the first-half was a topsy-turvy affair with both sides creating chances and making mistakes. The visitors earned a two-goal lead sparking jubilant celebrations as the three points loomed large. But despite their failings this season, Harrow's spirit has remained strong throughout and they fought back valiantly, dominating their opponents for much of the half and scoring three times to take the lead thanks to goals from Ed Poulter, Alex Breeden and Verhagen.

The second half proved a completely different affair however, as Marlborough shifted through the gears to turn the game on its head. Harrow were unable to stop the powerful Marlburian target man from dominating possession up front and further defensive errors, the bane of the side this season, saw the visitors scored three times unopposed to open up a 5-3 advantage.

Harrow continued to battle but were unable to break down a stubborn Marlborough rearguard. Only an 89th minute fluke from Bick, whose long ball into the box somehow sailed over the goalkeeper's head, offered any hope, but the visitors hung on in the closing minutes to secure the points.

The result should prove terminal to Harrow's chances of staying up this season with Marlborough having a previous points deduction overturned leaving them clear of trouble. Lancing and Brentwood's points tallies can be matched but such is the state of Harrow's goal difference, only a mathematical miracle would see the Blues survive.

Pride appears the only thing left to play for by the OHAFC 1st XI this season.
