The OHAFC 1st XI moved within one win of securing an immediate return to the Premier Division of the Arthurian League with a comfortable 10-1 win over a poor Haileybury side on the Harrow School astroturf. The highlight of the afternoon was a spectacular strike from debutant Ollie Curry, who connected with a raking crossfield ball to volley home first-time from outside the box.

The Blues were dealt a blow in midweek when centre-half Fred Milln was ruled out for six weeks with a knee injury. Skipper Ed Poulter dropped back to partner Yunus Sert in defence with Yunus' younger brother Emre making his debut for the Club in goal, Fraser McGuinness missing his first game since the opening weekend of the season. Ollie Curry, younger brother of 2's joint-leading scorer Max, was the second debutant, playing on the left wing.

Following last week's postponement of the Radley fixture the hosts were keen to get off to a quick start in the early kick-off but laboured for the opening twenty minutes as players got used to the surface. Fortunately, the side were presented with a gift of a goal when a short pass out from the Haileybury 'keeper was intercepted by Alex Gilbert and he ran on to fire home.

Gradually the Blues began to improve the quality of their play and strikers Hoffen and Gilbert both had chances to extend the lead before Haileybury, surprisingly, equalised from nowhere. The Harrow defence dallied in possession by the corner flag and a poor clearance was collected on the edge of the box before a neat curling finish left Sert with little chance in goal.

Undeterred, the Blues pressed on and were helped in their cause when the Haileybury left-back was forced off temporarily with a twisted ankle. Gilbert drove forwards to the edge of the box where he was brought down and Lederman stepped up to curl the ball over the wall and into the top corner for his second dead-ball goal of the season.

Simple strikes from Ollie Curry and Harry Hoffen put the result beyond doubt prior to the break but Curry's second effort will live long in the memory as one of the finest OHAFC goals ever scored: Lederman collected the ball from Scarborough on the right wing and fired a crossfield pass to the waiting Curry, who was loitering on the left. He timed his approach to the ball perfectly and, to the astonishment of everyone, fired his volley into the far corner of the net first-time from twenty-five yards out.

At half-time skipper Poulter stressed the need to keep the pressure on and continue to go for goals. As with the first half, it took the Blues a while to get going and the opening ten minutes were scrappy with a number of free-kicks being conceded by both teams.

It took a second Lederman free-kick to get the ball rolling again, the winger curling in from further out this time, the ball flying in just under the bar to stretch the tally to six.

And the last half-hour saw a regular stream of goals go in with both Curry the younger and Hoffen the elder completing hat-tricks. Ollie was slightly fortunate in that his first-time finish took a significant deflection on its way into the net, Harry, having missed on a number of occasions, made no mistake with and excellent turn and left-footed strike into the top corner.

Alex Gilbert rounded the scoring off and the OHAFC hit ten in the League for the first time in living memory - certainly it is the first time the Blues have hit double figures this century.

Remarkably, despite the one-sided scoreline, the Blues actually lost ground on Brentwood in the goal difference stakes, the side from Essex winning 11-1 at Aldenham!

It all means that victory next week away to Malvern will guarantee Premiership football for the OHAFC next season but they are still reliant on Brentwood dropping points elsewhere before the two teams meet after Easter in what will surely be one of the final games in Division One for either side for a while.
